Hold the selvedge edges........

together with the fabric folded across the center. Place your right hand to the top right corner edges of the fabric. Bring the fabric out from your body and look down at the folded edge. Run your left hand across the selvedge. Begin shifting the top selvedge edges until the folded edge at the bottom is smooth. This will make a short edge and a long edge on the right hand side. Keep running your left hand across the top selvedge edges until you get to the left side of the fabric. There will be another long edge and short edge. Align the two short edges and fold the fabric together vertically. Keep the torn edges to the right. Put the fabric on your table, with the original bottom fold on the bottom, and the selvedge edges on the top. It should be perfectly flat and smooth. In this picture, the selvedge edges are to the left, and the torn edges are to the top. The fabric is staggered a bit so the amount the fabric that was shifted can be viewed.
